GeekyBeach Metal Detecting

Project: Numerous Successful Recoveries & Website!

Situation:
As a lifelong metal detectorist, I have enjoyed benefits of the hobby including time outdoors, cleaning up the environment, and helping my neighbors find their missing items like phones, rings, watches…you name it! I also give back to my community by teaching lessons, cleaning up trash and debris, and reuniting lost items with their owner.

Task:
As a web developer myself, I created the website geekybeach.com to showcase my services in metal detecting. I am often called by people who find my website and are looking for help with lost items. They are commonly in a state of distress about their missing item and are looking for not just someone to help, but for some emotional support too.

Action:
Interacting with someone who has just lost a potentially expensive, cherished item involves asking lots of questions and being emotionally aware. In all cases, I put myself in their shoes: I walk the same path and imagine how they interacted with the environment. “Hmm…maybe they tripped over that rock and their item went flying into the leaf pile! … I’ll check it out.” This isn’t too far from what I do in my work life. I love asking questions and thinking about how people behave. So this metal detecting hobby of mine allows me to flex the same muscles in a different way.

Result:
Nine times out of ten, I will be able to recover a lost item! If you’re looking for a problem-solver to join your team, maybe you need a metal detectorist to help your business strike gold. 🙂
